Ron Suskind: The Forged CIA case for War in Iraq
Ron Suskind is a Pulizer-prize winning author, a professional journalist and he says he has tapes of his interviews of former CIA agents that led to the claims he’s been promoting on all the TV talk shows and News interview shows this week.
An article yesterday summed up his case, titled: “The Forged Iraqi Letter: What Just Happened?”
The quick summary is: The CIA forged a letter, under White House orders, that falsely links Iraq to Al Qaeda before the 2003 invasion, the specific claim about “the British government has learned that Saddam Hussein recently sought significant quantities of uranium from Africia,” as well as a new claim that the White House had info that there were no WMD’s in Iraq.
The sixteen words: “the British government has learned that Saddam Hussein recently sought significant quantities of uranium from Africia,” were spoken by Bush in the State of the Union address about the ‘axis of evil,” as was one of the big preludes to war.
I’ve been following the trail of this letter for years. One trail talked of “The Italian Letter,” because of it being printed in an Italian Newspaper, then the false intel was turned over to French intelligence and then turned over to British intelligence, reported in the British press and then quoted by the White House, Bush/Cheney, Romney, others as the Iraq-Al Qaeda link with the implication of a Saddam Hussein 9/11 link (just linke the White House implied that the anthrax attacks the week after 9/11 also came from Iraq).
The story of “The Italian letter was posted here over a year ago and more info about it is here
Rod Suskind’s new book, published this week, gets to the actual names of the CIA agents who did the forgery. The letter, itself, is the Smoking Gun.
Suskind says that now he and even more so, his CIA sources, are under tremendous pressure,” to recant their story.
I bet. So he deserves the Hero Worth Knowing award for standing up to that pressure and for his pursuit of the truth which will be needed to clean up this mess and to inform our American history with the hope is will prevent such lies and abuse from happening again.
We certainly need to vote for better leaders.
There is not much more to add to these horrific facts. Perhaps the actual news story from December 2003 where the false CIA info was printed in English may be so some interest.
